Northern Plains Dance Experience Jr.

Young dancers grow into serious students of ballet by strengthening their bodies and developing technique. Participation in Northern Plains Dance Experience Jr. prepares students for the next accelerated phase in their dance training. With three hours of daily classes, the students will see results in strength, development, and mastery of ballet vocabulary.

The curriculum of NPDE Jr. is specifically designed with the growing student in mind and is presented in an environment that is positive and nurturing. NPDE Jr. is a rigorous and comprehensive program that provides aspiring dancers with a greater grasp of ballet technique and related dance styles. This unique summer program allows dancers ages 8-12 to completely immerse themselves, furthering their understanding the art of dance.

This two-week summer session is structured in a way that a dancer can participate in only one week if so desired, however we recommend students register for both weeks in order to receive the most well-rounded dance training. Each week the students will have the opportunity to work with different faculty members from around the country in varying styles of dance.

Curriculum
Dancers will begin their day with ballet class and focus on strength, flexibility, and proper ballet technique. Students will build on the fundamentals of learning how to use their turnout, foot muscles, and abdominal muscles to prepare and stabilize their bodies for more complex movements. Following ballet, a specialty class such as modern, jazz or improvisation will take place in order to help round out the students’ experience.

Faculty
The faculty at Northern Plains Dance Experience Jr. is comprised of qualified teachers and accomplished company dancers from around the country. The faculty strives to help the students accomplish personal goals, grow in technique, and find their full potential. Northern Plains Dance brings in some faculty members for the entire span of NPDE Jr. to provide students with consistency and focused attention, while other faculty members are hired for one week to expand students’ knowledge of diverse dance forms and exposure to different teaching methods.
